DANCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Dance & Music Academy was established to bring exceptional dance instruction to the Chicago-Edgebrook and Glenview areas. In cooperation with our Music Program we offer a wide range of options for children to adults.
Preschool Dance Program
Our preschool dance programs are divided by age:

Dance 1
Age 3 by September 1 - Dance 1 is a combination tap and ballet class. Students work on coordination, learning right and left, following directions and basic dance steps. Class length is 45 minutes, 1 time per week.

Dance 2
Age 4 by September 1 - Dance 2 is a combination tap and ballet class. Students continue working on skills from Dance 1, as well as remembering steps in order and a slightly more difficult set of dance steps. Class length is 45 minutes, 1 time per week.

Jazz and Modern Program

What is the difference between Jazz, Hip Hop and Modern?
Jazz is an upbeat form of dance known for its showmanship style. Jazz is often used in musical theater productions. It is a more structured style of dance than Hip Hop. Hip Hop is more free-form and is based on street dance style. Modern Dance came from "breaking the rules" of ballet, while still improving strength, flexibility and increased range of motion. Modern is a good choice for those not wanting the discipline of ballet, but needing to learn the basic foundation of technique.
