Each family will receive one DVD, which is included with the recital fee. If you wish to order additional DVDs, we will have a form available for you to fill out at the front desk. May 16, 2010 - GLENVIEW PICTURE DAY
May 16, 2010 - EDGEBROOK PICTURE DAY
We will have Grins Photography on-site at Dance & Music Academy to take pictures of each dance group and individuals in their costumes. The exact time and day for your class pictures are posted on the bulletin board near the front door of the studio. Grins has extensive experience photographing dance groups, and they have it down to a science! You may elect to purchase individual or group pictures, however, even if you don't plan to purchase pictures, please come for the group photo. Group photos will be added to our "Wall of Fame", and all of our students enjoy seeing their smiling faces on the wall! If you do purchase pictures, they will be mailed to your home address, so you won't have to worry about picking them up when they are ready!

CAN I TAKE PICTURES/VIDEOS DURING THE RECITAL?
For the safety of our performers and to prevent distractions, no flash photography is allowed. The show will be professionally video taped using the proper camera equipment for stage lighting, and DVDs will be available for a reasonable cost. NOONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO SIT/STAND IN THE AISLES OR AT THE FOOT OF THE STAGE TO VIDEOTAPE OR TAKE PICTURES.
CAN PARENTS STAY/COME BACKSTAGE DURING THE PERFORMANCE?
In order to ensure the safety and security of our dancers and staff, only Dance Academy staff and performers will be allowed backstage and in the dressing rooms during the performance. We have hired a staff of people to supervise and assist with costume changes and trips to the bathroom. It is very busy backstage during the performance, and additional people are distracting.

SHOULD DANCERS WEAR MAKEUP FOR PICTURES/PERFORMANCE?
Wearing makeup for pictures and the recital is a personal choice, but makeup is highly recommended for the recital. We recommend light makeup for pictures, just to enhance features, especially on the eyes.
For Stage: Very bright lights are used on stage during the recital. The bright lights tend to “wash out” the dancers. This means that the dancers look pale and their features may not appear as sharp. For this reason, we recommend that dancers wear makeup for the recital performance. Dancers who choose to wear makeup should apply it heavier than someone would normally wear every day. Dancers should aim to enhance their features, not look like painted dolls.
RECITAL GIFTS
Flowers will be available in the lobby before the performance.
HOW SHOULD HAIR BE WORN FOR THE RECITAL?
A bun is preferred for all dancers. Dancers in Ballet numbers must wear their hair pulled back in a bun.
Jazz/Hip Hop/Tap dancers may wear their hair either pulled back in a bun or pony tail OR “half up & half down” (top front half of hair from above the ears pulled back in a pony tail or barrette), however, a bun is preferred. Please keep in mind that the dancer will keep her hair the same for the entire show. We will not be available to assist your child with a change of hair style and parents are not allowed backstage.
WHAT ABOUT JEWELRY/DRINKS/TOYS?
NO jewelry should be worn during the recital. Dancers wearing jewelry of any kind will be asked to remove it before they perform on stage. Please DO NOT bring jewelry, toys, etc. with you to the recital, as they are a distraction and may be lost by your child. DO NOT send food or juice boxes with your child; we do not want their costumes to get soiled before they go on stage. There is a drinking fountain available to the dancers backstage, but you may have your child bring a bottle (with a closeable top) filled with WATER ONLY if you wish.
COSTUME ACCESSORIES
Some costumes will come with flowers or other pieces that will need to be attached. Some costumes come with the straps unattached so you can fit them to your dancer. You can either sew the accessories/straps on, or you can safety pin them on. This does not require a lot of sewing experience; basically, if you can sew on a button, you can handle this! When you receive the costume(s), it will include a list of accessories to attach, color tights to wear, color shoes to wear, etc.
CAN MY DANCER SIT WITH ME DURING THE PERFORMANCE?
No. Dancers remain backstage during the performance. All dancers are in the last number of the show – The Bows. After the bows, we will bring each group of dancers out to the front of the audience area (the orchestra pit) so you can pick up your child. DANCE 1 AND DANCE 2 STUDENTS: If you would like to pick your child up after his/her number, you may do so, but you will have to purchase a ticket in advance in order to have your child sit with you during the remainder of the performance. If you elect to pick your child up after his/her number, he/she will not participate in the Bows at the end of the show.
PURCHASING TICKETS FOR THE RECITAL
Both recitals on June 6, 2010, will have RESERVED SEATING. The Ballet Recital on June 4, 2010, will have General Admission seating (no assigned seats). Tickets go on sale on May 8, 2010. At that time, you may pick up the two tickets included with your family's recital fee and purchase additional tickets you need. (There is no need to stand in line on May 8th if you are only attending the Ballet Recital on June 4th, as these seats are not assigned in advance.) There are assigned seats for the performances on June 6th, so tickets purchased on a separate date will most likely be in a different seating section. Tickets for the performance are $10.00 each in advance and $15.00 at the door. If you or someone in your party have special seating requirements, such as a guest in a wheelchair, etc., please let us know so we can make advanced seating arrangements for your party. Tickets will remain on sale at the front desk until June 3, 2010.
EDGEBROOK TICKETS GO ON SALE: May 8, 2010: 1:00-3:00pm
GLENVIEW TICKETS GO ON SALE: May 8, 2010: 9:00am-12:00pm
